Aileu, 25 August 2025 – Deputy Ombudsman for Good Governance, Rigoberto Monteiro, joined the opening of the “Youth Camp Week for Persons with Disabilities in Timor-Leste” in Seloi Kraik, Aileu.
The week-long program organized by the Timor-Leste Disability Association (ADTL), features training, civic education, dialogue, reflection, experience-sharing, health consultations, and celebrations of the 30 August Popular Consultation Day.
In his remarks, Rigoberto Monteiro called on persons with disabilities to engage closely with PDHJ, noting that “your voices matter, and together we can make the State more inclusive.”
Monteiro revealed that PDHJ recently assessed the implementation of the National Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities and uncovered significant gaps. Findings including progress, challenges, and areas needing improvement will soon be presented to the Government, particularly the 11 key ministries responsible for carrying out the plan’s recommendations.
“We urge the State to reflect these priorities in next year’s national budget,” Monteiro said, reaffirming PDHJ’s commitment to an inclusive Timor-Leste that delivers on its promises to all citizens.
