Ombudsman Joins Jury for Prestigious Jorge Sampaio Prize at Portuguese Embassy

On 10 June 2025, the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice, Virgílio da Silva Guterres “Lamukan”, joined as a member of the jury for the Jorge Sampaio Prize, held at the Portuguese Embassy in Timor-Leste. This prestigious award, honoring the late President of Portugal, celebrated the theme “Freedom”, reflecting values central to human rights and democracy. The Ombudsman also participated in presenting the awards, highlighting PDHJ’s commitment to civic education and the promotion of human rights.
The event brought together national and international guests, including representatives from UNDIL, IILP, the Jorge Sampaio Cultural Center, and the Portuguese Embassy. Winners received certificates, books, financial support, and three were selected for the Summer University offered by Universidade de Macau, supported by MESCC. This initiative reinforces the importance of youth engagement and cultural exchange in building a society based on freedom, dignity, and justice.
