PDHJ Participates in Review of “Hakbi’it ba Inkluzaun” Project to Support Women and Girls with Disabilities

Dili, 2 September 2025 – UN Women, UNICEF, the UN Human Rights Advisory Unit, and partners held a meeting to review the progress of the “Hakbi’it ba Inkluzaun” project, which aims to reduce violence and discrimination against women and girls with disabilities in Timor-Leste. PDHJ participated in this second Steering Committee project meeting, represented by the Deputy Ombudsman for Human Rights, Maria Marilai da Costa. The meeting provided a platform for implementing partners to share updates, challenges, and recommendations, and highlighted good practices from Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs) and government institutions providing services to persons with disabilities.

During the session, partners reported on advocacy efforts and monitoring activities related to the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). DPO noted that the Convention has yet to be fully implemented, as many people remain unaware of its provisions. Government representatives reaffirmed their commitment to continue facilitating monitoring and evaluation efforts, even as the official report on CRPD implementation for 2021–2024 is still in preparation.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of the action plan for the final quarter of 2025. Participants included representatives from, MSSI, MJDAC, SEI, DPO, CBRNTL, RHTO, and ADTL.
