Chief Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice Participates in International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) XXI

Vilnius, Lithuania, 21 June 2024– Virgílio da Silva Guterres ‘Lamukan’, Chief Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice, participated in the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) held in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from June 18 to 21, 2024.
The international anti-corruption event is a global forum that brings together institutions and anti-corruption movements from nearly 150 countries, including academics, government leaders, activists, artists, journalists, and human rights defenders. They gather to share experiences, concerns, and challenges in the fight against corruption and to collectively identify approaches to minimize and eradicate this social ill that continues to threaten humanity.
Chief Ombudsman Virgílio Guterres’s presence at the IACC XXI conference in Lithuania was facilitated by Dexis Consultant Group in Timor-Leste, the entity responsible for implementing the “Accountability and Integrity Mechanism” program financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
In addition to the IACC conference, the Ombudsman of Timor-Leste also spoke at a parallel event organized by Dexis and its partners, alongside speakers from Guatemala, Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The event focused on “Consolidating Achievements of Anti-Corruption Reforms as Catalysts for Democratic Transformations.”
The IACC 2024 conference commenced on June 18 and concluded on June 21 with the Vilnius Declaration, available at https://iaccseries.org/the-21st-iacc-vilnius-declaration…/
The IACC 2024 was organized by Transparency International, the Lithuanian Centre for Special Investigation, the IACC Council, and the government of the Republic of Lithuania as the host.
Details about the location and organizer of the next IACC conference, scheduled for 2026, will be announced later.
