PDHJ and Indonesian Ombudsman Explore Future Cooperation on Good Governance and Border Monitoring

Jakarta, 24 April 2025 – The Provedoria dos Direitos Humanos e Justiça (PDHJ), represented by its Head of Cabinet, Áureo José António Savio, met with officials from the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) at the ORI Headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta. The ORI was represented by Secretary General Suganda Pandapotan Pasaribu and Esti Budiyarti, Head of the Legal Office for Cooperation and Organization.

The meeting focused on exploring future cooperation between PDHJ and ORI in the areas of research, training, and institutional development, with the aim of strengthening capacity and promoting a shared commitment to good governance.

A key area of interest discussed was the joint monitoring of activities at the integrated border post between Timor-Leste and Indonesia. Both parties agreed on the importance of ensuring that public services at the border are delivered efficiently, transparently, and in alignment with human rights principles.

The ORI delegation welcomed the initiative and expressed their readiness to continue communication with PDHJ to further develop the scope and structure of cooperation. Both sides agreed to begin working on the technical groundworkfor a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the partnership.

This bilateral engagement reflects a growing regional commitment to cross-border cooperation, improved service delivery, and institutional accountability, particularly in areas where collaboration between national human rights institutions is crucial to protecting citizens’ rights.
